Protests In Gabon As President Is Said To Be Of Nigerian Descent

 There has been deep rooted speculations over the nationality of the Gabonese president - Ali Bongo, with many claiming that he is of Nigerian descent. Presently there is crisis in the Central African country and part of the grievances is that they cannot have a foreigner (Nigerian) ruling them.

Ali Bongo Ondimba has been President of Gabon since October 2009. Bongo is the son of Omar Bongo, who was President of Gabon from 1967 until his death in 2009.

Imo Women Protest Molest By Their Sons

 Women of a rural community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area in Imo state,  Mgbishii are protesting over the unthinkable savage crimes that have befallen them.

The mothers have cried out to Imo State government and the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province Dr. Anthony Obinna saying that their off springs have turned against them.

    According to the women: “We are defiled and molested by our own children. You cannot come to Mgbuishii and return home safely because of the crime rate.” What a shame!


They confirmed to Vanguard that they are being molested by their own children during a recent group visit to the Catholic Archbishop at the Maria Assumpta Catholic Cathedral in Owerri.

Nigerian Soldiers’ Wives Protest Husbands’ Deployment

Hundreds of Nigerian soldiers’ wives who took to the streets in Maiduguri on Monday to protest the deployment of their husbands for military duties in Gwoza, in Borno, were asked to return home as their husbands were under oath to protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

The Nigerian soldiers’ wives, who eventually settled at the main military barracks in north-eastern Maiduguri city, had questioned the insistence of the Federal Government in continuing to wage war against the insurgents despite limited military facilities.

3 Sons Of Zakzaky Were Killed During Friday's Clash Between Shiites & Soldiers (PICTURED)

  Reports had it yesterday that one son of Sheikh Ibraheem El Zakzaky, who led the Shiite protest in Zaria after Friday prayers, was killed during the Islamic group's clash with Nigerian soldiers. It turns out two more sons of the leader of the Shiite group were killed. Hameed, Mamhud and Ahmed Zakzaky (pictured above) were allegedly killed by Nigerian soldiers in Zaria.

The Shiite Muslims released a statement alleging that 10 of their members were killed yesterday during their march in Zaria, Kaduna in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. They said among those killed were Sheikh Zaksaky's three sons, a nursing mother and child and two other women.

They claim that security agents arrested three sons of Sheikh Zakzaky, and later shot two of the three men in detention. Find the press statement after the cut...

OAU SHUT DOWN OVER STUDENTS' TUITION FEE PROTEST

  Obafemi Awolowo University – OAU, yesterday  evening announced an indefinite shutdown and ordered students to vacate the premises by Thursday afternoon.
The news comes after the violent demonstrations by students because of the tuition hike by the management of the institution in May 2014.
In a statement signed by D.O Awoyemi, Registrar and Secretary to the university council, it  indicated that the “persistent disruption of normal activities and peace on campus as a result of violent demonstrations by students, led by the Student Union Executive”, fueled the decision.

Presidential Convoy Allegedly 'Shoots at' Protesting OAU Students!

A presidential convoy was today held hostage by hundreds of protesting students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, after security details attached to the convoy allegedly shot at them. The convoy led by a Toyota SUV with ‘Presidency’ inscription and registration number, FG902-B02, tried to drive through the students who were protesting an increase in fees by the university. Two of the students reportedly sustained injuries.



One of the leaders of the protest told PREMIUM TIMES on phone:

"The security details shot at us. We have held them hostage. We will not let him go."

MOTHERS OF KIDNAPPED SCHOOL GIRLS STORM ABUJA, PROTEST AT NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Aggrieved mothers and other indigenes of Chibok, Borno State, yesterday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, staged a protest to demand the immediate rescue or release of the more than 200 secondary school girls abducted by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on April 14.

The protesters, most of them members of the Kibaku Development Association, Chibok, converged at Eagle Square in Nigeria’s capital. From there, they marched to the National Assembly to submit a protest letter. The women were led into the premises of the national legislature by a group of senior female police officers.

Expatriate Resigns In Protest Over Company's Maltreatment Of Nigerian Workers

A Base Maintenance Manager at Caverton Helicopters, Surendra Bhagwandass, resigned yesterday over non-payment of salaries and unfair treatment of Nigerian workers in the company.
The expatriate accused the company which has contracts with oil firms like TOTAL, SHELL, among others for not paying the salaries of its Nigerian workers last month, December 2013.
He also said that unlike the foreign workers, the Nigerian staff do not enjoy all the benefits that comes with the job even though they put in more effort.

Bhagwandass who tendered his resignation letter through an email to the management of Caverton said that he became frustrated knowing that the expatriates workers were being taken care of while their Nigerian counterparts were not only poorly paid but their salaries delayed and described the development as unfair.
