A helicopter carring eight people crashed off the coast of western Ghana, on Thursday,  killing three people including a Nigerian, while several others sustained injuries.
Confirming the news, Ghana Armed Forces spokesman M’Bawine Atintande told Newsmen that the Ghana-registered chopper, which was conveying eight people, including two crew members and six oil workers, crashed into the sea near one of the oil rigs, 20 nautical miles off Takoradi, Western Region on Thursday evening.
The helicopter took off from the coastal town of Takoradi at 12h50 GMT and had been scheduled to land at a platform offshore at 13h10.

Five Ghanaians and three foreign nationals – British, French and Nigerian – perished in the crash.

After reports of the crash emerged, Ghanaian Navy and Airforce personnel launched a rescue mission that saved four of those on board.
