POLICE ARRAIGN 27 YEAR OLD MAN FOR RAPING 5 YEAR OLD IN TARABA
The incident allegedly happened on Christmas Day, 2013.
The police on Tuesday arraigned a 27-year-old man, William Julius, in a Jalingo Chief Magistrates’ Court for raping a five-year-old girl.
The accused, a resident of Abuja Phase 2 in Jalingo, however denied the charge when read to him.
The prosecutor, Godfrey Moses, told the court that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.
He further told the court that the rape incident was reported at the Taraba Police Command by the victim’s father, Joseph Ubandoma, on December 25, 2013.
The prosecutor said the complainant told the police that the accused came to his residence and lured his daughter into an uncompleted building.
He said the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of his daughter without her consent, thereby causing her injuries.
Mr. Moses, a police sergeant, asked the court for a short adjournment of the case to enable him conclude investigation, given that the accused had denied the charge.
The magistrate, Aliyu Baffa, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to January 20.
