My Daughter My Sister: Woman To Give Birth To Her Grandchild

Lorena Mckinnon is the 32 year old daughter of a 58 year old woman Julia Navarro.
Mckinnon and her husband, Micah Mckinnon have been trying to conceive for 3 years.
Since then, Mckinnon from Provo, Utah, said she has had about a dozen miscarriages, with the longest pregnancy lasting 10 weeks.
After several tries, Mckinnon and her husband, Micah Mckinnon, started looking for a surrogate. A friend and sister both considered but later decided against it.
That was when Navarro decided to help carry her daughter's baby.

She had to under go hormone shots for 3 months before an embryo fertilized by her daughter and son in-law could be implanted. Because of her age doctors had warned there was only 45% chance of a successful implantation.
The operation was a success and Julia said she has a smooth pregnancy, they are now in their eight month.

As is the norm, the couple and Navarro went through 3 months of counseling.
Other cases  of mothers birthing their grand children in recent times include,
last year's  53 year old woman from Iowa who gave birth to her twin granddaughters and in 2012, a 49 year old woman from Maine gave birth to her grandson.

Mckinnon is grateful to her mother for, this offer which eases some of the obstacles and financial burdens of parents using a gestational surrogate.
On the average the procedure and payment of the surrogate can cost up to $60,000, Navarro's offer to help is saving the couple about half of that amount Mckinnon said.

According to Utah law, surrogates must be 21years or older, must be financially stable and must have given birth once.
Both she and her daughter said they have bonded over the experience.
The baby girl is due in February.
