Brazil Protesters Launch 'Operation Stop The World Cup'

Yesterday in Sao Paulo about 1,000 protesters took to the streets waving  flags and carrying banners in protest against Brazil's hosting of the World cup, an event billed to hold later in the year.

The Anonymous Rio protest group on its facebook page billed "Operation Stop the World Cup" said thuis was the group's first act against the football tournament this year.
As they approached the central area of the city, some demonstrators attacked an empty police car and tried to overturn it, while others torched a small car.

During the demonstrations the protesters chanted "If we have no rights, there will be no Cup".

A university student, Leonardo Pelegrini dos Santos explained that by rights they mean the people's right to decent public service.

"we are against millions and millions of dollars being spent on the Cup. It is money that should be invested in better health and education services and better transportation and housing.

Fellow student,Juliana Turno said: "This is a small sample of the protests that will happen when the World Cup begins and will be bigger than those of last year"
