12 -Year-Old Arrested For Shooting Two Classmates
In a shooting incident in Roswell NM a 12-year -old boy has reportedly shot and wounded two classmates at his middle school on Tuesday morning.
Gov. Susana Martinez says a boy was critically injured and a girl was in serious condition following the shooting at Berrendo Middle School in Roswell.
The 12-year-old New Mexico boy pulled a shotgun out of a band instrument case and opened fire on his classmates at about 8 am in the gym where they typically hang out before classes start.
Fortunately he was stopped by a staff member who walked up to him and asked him to set down the fire arm which he did.
The shooter was described by a fellow student as a "smart kid and a nice kid", while another said the boy that was shot "was really nice and got along with everybody." Hospital officials said on Tuesday afternoon that the 11 -year-old had undergone surgery but was still in critical condition, nurses at the hospital think he was the shooters target.
Roswell police say the school was placed on lock down, and the suspected shooter was arrested.
His name was not released, children were bused to a near by mall where parents could pick them up.
The white house press secretary said the president was aware of the shooting and that "the president's team is closely monitoring the situation and is in close touch with our federal partners."
meanwhile some Berrendo Students have posted on their facebook sites that they were frightened and did not want to return to school.
