Hiroshima, Before and after

Today in history an American bomber, a Silverplate B-29 Superfortress dropped the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima flattening and eventually snuffing out about 166,000 lives.

The bombing took place during the final stages of World War II in August 1945 on the 6th. The bomb within the first two to four months had the effect of killing 90,000 to 166,000 people, those that did not die on the first day of the bombing died from the effects of burns, radiation sickness, and other injuries compounded by illness. Most of the dead were civilians.

On August 15 a few days after the bombing of a second city, Nagasaki,on the 9th, Japan announced its surrender to the Allies. Japan signed the instrument of Surrender on September 2, putting an end to World War II.
Hiroshima was founded on the river delta coastline of the Seto Inland Sea in 1589 by the powerful warlord Mori.
