Tambuwal |
Contrary to what has been widely reported by some newspapers and online media, The House of Representatives has dismissed reports of a plot, being hatched by the presidency in conjunction with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remove the Speaker, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, by bribing lawmakers.
House Committee Chairman on Media and Publicity, Hon. Zakari Mohammed
(APC, Kwara), told THISDAY in a telephone interview that the issue was a
mere rumour.
Some newspapers and online media had reported, citing sources that the
PDP and the presidency had resorted to subterfuge and cash to remove
Tambuwal, who is seen as supporting the opposition.
The report had claimed that each lawmaker was allegedly given $25,000
in the first instance and with a promise that more would be given after
the removal of the speaker.
But Mohammed said nobody could influence the removal of Tambuwal,
stressing that neither PDP nor the presidency would succeed in
engineering such a process.
Insisting that it was all rumour, that they choose their speaker against all odds and would stand by him through thick or thin.
