Mikel Obi in final three-man list For 2013 African Footballer Of the Year

The Confederations of African Football have shortlisted Nigeria and Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi in the final three-man list for the 2013 African footballer of the year.

Also in the final three are the 2012 African footballer of the year, Yaya Toure and former Chelsea player, Didier Drogba.

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan failed to make CAF’s final three-man shortlist for the 2013 Player of the Year.

Gyan was part of the 10 players who were shortlisted following voting from members of the Technical & Development and the Media Committees but failed to get to the last stage of the Gala.

Ghana youth international Ebenezer Assifuah, who won the Golden Shoe Award at the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey, is one of three players for Most Promising Talent.


According to mtnfootball, the FC Servette player must fend off competition from Kelechi Iheanacho named Most Valuable Player at the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup and Egypt youngster Salah Gomaa.

The winner will be announced on 09 January 2014 at the GLO-CAF Awards Gala to be held in Lagos Nigeria.
