PHOTOS: UNILAG Students Use Pure Water To Put Out Fire At Their Hostel

The popular Madam Tinubu Hall, MTH, was gutted by fire in the early hours of today after a student used a hot plate to cook and put it under her bed without totally putting out the heat. The fire started from the room and spread to other rooms but thankfully no student was killed. A few of them were however injured when they tried to jump from their windows to escape the fire.

The saddest part of it all was that students had to resort to using pure water to put the fire because there was no water in the hostel. Quite sad! See more photos below:

Is any thing a mother won't do to keep her baby safe? An act of bravery may have cost a mother her legs as she may never use them again after she broke her back jumping from a burning building to save her toddler son.
23-year-old mom, Christina Simoes held her 18-month-old Camron in her arms and leaped from a second-floor balcony as flames swept through her apartment complex in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
Simoes who has been hailed as a hero totally denies it but simply says, I’m just Camron’s mom’.
Camron’s mother who is still on her hospital bed said  holding her son was the best Mother’s Day gift she could have, in front of a camera.

23-Year-old Woman Dies Trying To Rescue Fiance From Burning Flat

Sophie Rosser, a 23-year-old architect, died while trying to rescue her fiance, 28-year-old Oscar Silva, from a burning block of flats in East London where they lived in.
Rosser, who had just returned from a party early one morning, saw the fire, and called Silva on the phone to alert him to evacuate the building, as he was asleep at the time.
He did not respond, and so she dashed into the building to try to save him. But unknown to her, Silva had taken the elevator to another floor in an attempt to escape the fire. They missed each other in the midst of the chaos, but paramedics were able to rescue him.

FIRE GUTS PDP PRESS CENTER INSIDE PDP HEADQUATERS

The headquarters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was engulfed in fire around 7:30pm yesterday according to Saharareporter's eyewitnesses.

Two portakabin stacked on top of each other which the party uses as its press center were completely razed to the ground.

 The party’s publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, said the fire started from an air-conditioning unit in one of the cabins and had been put under control.

A short statement he issued in Abuja said the party rules out sabotage.

Tragic: Candle fire burns 2 children to death in Lagos

wo siblings died in a fire during the weekend in Ejigbo, Lagos.
According to reports, the children 5-year-old Abiba and 3-year-old Lukeman,were burnt to death after the whole room caught fire as a result of a burning candle which ignited the mattress they were sleeping on.
The incident was said to happened on Saturday at about 9 p.m at 1, Anulowapo Street, Orilowo Bus Stop, Ejigbo while the mother of the victims who lit the candle was outside the room following a power outage in the area.
PM News reports:

Valuable items in the room were also burnt before the fire was prevented from spreading to other rooms.

An Imo state woman, Patience Chilaekezie, has ended 12 years of marriage and childlessness by setting herself and her husband Monday Chilaekezie and their home on fire

.Monday, who had secretly married a second wife wanted to bring the new wife, who already had 2 girls for him and was pregnant with the third child into the home to live with them.

Chidinma, Monday’s younger sister’s accounts of events leading to the tragic end, indicate that Patience had carefully planned it all. According to her, Patience had been grieving that her husband of 12 years had decided to send her away. It was learnt that the couple had married for that long without children. As Chidinma said, her brother had made up his mind to bring in another woman within the community who was pregnant for him.

14-Year-old Girl Suffers 2nd Degree Burns When Her iPhone Burst Into Flames

 Maine teenager suffered second-degree burns on Friday when her iPhone caught fire in her pocket while she was at school.
The girl, who has not been named, was burned on the thigh and back when her iPhone 5C started smouldering in her back pocket.
Classmates heard a pop and saw smoke billowing around the 14-year-old, who had to remove her pants in class to get away from the fire.

Millions Of Naira Lost As Nobel Plaza, Abuja Goes Up In Flames

 


Nobel Plaza, a two storey building located at Area 10 Garki, Abuja, was gutted by fire this evening, the building which is about a few minutes drive from the federal Fire Service had the entire 2nd foor in flames.

Unfortunately the Federal Fire Service could not put out the  fire, because they had no water in their vehicles, If not for he timely intervention of the Nigerian Air Force fire Service joined by Julius Begger Fire Service the entire building would have been lost.

Fire Destroys Akwanga Market

Akwanga (Nasarawa State) -  A late evening fire on Monday  destroyed some shops at Akwanga Market in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The fire, which started about 9p.m.  destroyed six stalls, including cosmetics stores, a hairdressing salon and provisions stores.
