The All Progressives Congress, APC, Caucus in the House of Representatives says it will not move against the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, in its quest to take over the leadership of the lower legislative chamber later this month.
It however said it was not certain about the fate of the deputy speaker, Emeka Ihedioha.
The leader of the Caucus, Femi Gbajabiamila, who disclosed this in a telephone interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Thursday, said the party had commenced moves to take over the leadership of the House upon resumption from the Christmas/New Year break.
APC, a merger of three parties, Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Congress for Progressives Change, CPC, All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, and a section of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, emerged the majority party in the 360-member House last month following the defection of 37 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to it.

Plot To Remove Tambuwal A Hoax
Tambuwal |
Contrary to what has been widely reported by some newspapers and online media, The House of Representatives has dismissed reports of a plot, being hatched by the presidency in conjunction with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to remove the Speaker, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, by bribing lawmakers.
House Committee Chairman on Media and Publicity, Hon. Zakari Mohammed
(APC, Kwara), told THISDAY in a telephone interview that the issue was a
mere rumour.
Some newspapers and online media had reported, citing sources that the
PDP and the presidency had resorted to subterfuge and cash to remove
Tambuwal, who is seen as supporting the opposition.
The report had claimed that each lawmaker was allegedly given $25,000
in the first instance and with a promise that more would be given after
the removal of the speaker.
But Mohammed said nobody could influence the removal of Tambuwal,
stressing that neither PDP nor the presidency would succeed in
engineering such a process.
Insisting that it was all rumour, that they choose their speaker against all odds and would stand by him through thick or thin.
