Abuja Hotels To Submit Daily List Of Guests To SSS And Police

 MINISTER of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, on Monday, directed all hotels in Abuja to, henceforth, forward the list of their guests to the FCT Directorate of State Security Services (SSS) and the FCT police command on a daily basis.

The hotels were equally required to install security cameras within their vicinity and ensure thorough check of all vehicles entering their premises and within their surroundings.

Speaker Tambuwal Detained And Searched By Soldiers

Soldiers detained the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, briefly on Sunday in the capital of Kaduna State, insisting that his official car "must be searched" before he could be allowed into the venue of an international conference where he was due to deliver a speech.

The Speaker, who arrived the venue of the gathering at exactly 9.16 am for the 10.00 am opening ceremony, had his convoy stopped by soldiers who insisted on searching his official car before he could be allowed into the venue, otherwise he would not be allowed to go in.
   

Media Clampdown Will Continue – Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has said that the ongoing clampdown on the media will continue until it is satisfied with its checks on the nation’s newspapers distribution network.
The Director, Defence Information, Maj.Gen. Chris Olukolade, said this on Tuesday while featuring on a programme, entitled Focus Nigeria on the African Independent Television monitored in Lagos.
Though he admitted that the onslaught was at a cost to the media, it would not stop until the military was satisfied that none of the circulating vehicles of the media organisations was not being used to carry arms and ammunition for the insurgents.
He, however, pleaded for understanding, saying the media must consider the military action as one of the sacrifices that should be made for national security.

Weapons Found In Zamfara Lawmaker’s House

  Fear has gripped residents of Gusau,  the Zamfara State capital  following the discovery of  arms and ammunition, including grenade  in  the residence of a lawmaker(names with held) in the state by security operatives.

As the news of the scary discovery spread in Gusau and neigbouring Tsafe town,there was panic and tension as motorists and residents struggled for safety, resulting in a gridlock.
A source who pleaded  anonymity, told Daily Sun that the raid  on the lawmaker’s residence followed a tip-off. According to sources , some men who were arrested with arms in Kano,  made confessional statement that they kept  their arms and ammunition in the Zamfara lawmaker’s  house.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and service chiefs are at loggerheads over disbursement of the financial allocations to the military.

Investigations showed that there were instances where “money would be released on paper,” but the military would be told that there was no cash back-up.

WE DON'T KNOW WHERE THE ABDUCTED GIRLS ARE - PRESIDENT JONATHAN

 Almost three weeks after over 200 schoolgirls were abducted from a secondary school in Chibok, Borno State, President Goodluck Jonathan has said the Federal Government does not know their   whereabouts.
Jonathan said this on Sunday during the Presidential Media Chat in Abuja.
He also spoke on the probe of the Minister of Petroleum Resources,  Diezani Alison- Madueke,  over  the N10bn  she allegedly spent on a chartered jet, the security measures in place for the World Economic Forum, the power  sector reforms and the 2015 elections.
Asked  if  there was  any confirmed information about where the  kidnapped  schoolgirls are, Jonathan replied, “None; there is none.”

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has summoned members of the National Security Council to a meeting tomorrow at the Presidential Villa against the background of recent events and developments in the country.
The meeting which will be presided over by President Jonathan is scheduled for 1100 hours.

Those expected at the meeting include Vice President Namadi Sambo, the Minister of Defence, Lt.-Gen Aliyu Gusau, the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, the Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the State Security Services and the Director-General of National Intelligence Agency.

Heavy security in Abuja as National Conference begins

Barely 24 hours to the commencement of the national conference, security agencies have tightened security in and around the Federal Capital Territory.

The new security arrangement was put in place even as the Federal Government on Thursday made some changes to the list of delegates to the national conference scheduled to begin on Monday with 492 delegates.

On Friday, the armed forces, police and intelligence services were on high alert in the nation’s capital, in preparation for the conference.

SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that the security measure was taken because of the renewed attacks by the Boko Haram sect in the North-East.

Detachments of armed soldiers, mostly drawn from the Guards Brigade, were seen manning checkpoints at various entrances to Abuja.

Checks by our correspondents at some locations revealed an upsurge in vehicular traffic along Kubwa—Zuba and Abuja—Keffi roads, as well as the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Expressway, commonly referred to as Airport Road.
