A British father who contracted a rare flesh-eating bacteria and nearly lost his life has finally been released from the hospital after losing three of his appendages to the pathogens.
Alex Lewis, 34, who is father to a 3-year-old boy named Sam, contracted Group A streptococcus last fall. Though the bacteria is easily fought off by the body, his case turned into septicaemia, in which bacteria enters the blood stream.
Even after the months of surgeries, hospital stays and rehab, Lewis says he feels blessed.
