Man Dies While On Prayer Mountain In Ondo
A middle aged man slumped and died while praying on a mountain along Idanre road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the deceased was found dead last Sunday; while a bible, slippers, pieces of bread and tooth-brush were carefully arranged in a bucket placed beside his lifeless body.
A police source told PREMIUM TIMES that the deceased, whose identity is yet to be determined, is believed to have been on the mountain, performing prayers, for some days before his demise.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Wole Ogodo, said at the time information got to the police on the incident, the victim was already dead.
He explained that though the immediate cause of the death was yet to be ascertained, there were no noticeable marks or injuries on the deceased; an indication he could have died of natural causes.
Mr. Ogodo added that homicide detectives were already working on the circumstances surrounding the death. He said the matter was reported by some pastors, who went to the same mountain to pray and discovered the body of the deceased.
The spokesperson said the police had since deposited the corpse at the General Hospital in Akure for autopsy. He said police officers have been drafted to the prayer ground to keep surveillance on the area.
