EBOLA: Blood From Survivors Being Sold On West African Black Market

According to WHO, the blood from Ebola survivors is now being sold on the black market .This development started after it was revealed the blood of those treated for Ebola can be used to cure those infected.

A third U.S. missionary worker Dr Rick Sacra,(above)who was infected with Ebola in Liberia and flown to the U.S. for medical care was treated with blood transfusions from Dr Kent,an American who recovered from the virus last month.

Use Ebola Survivors’ Blood To Treat Others -WHO

The blood of patients who recover from Ebola should be used to treat others, the World Health Organisation has announced.

West Africa is facing the largest Ebola outbreak in history and more than 1,900 people have died.

A global group of experts have been meeting to assess the experimental therapies that could contain Ebola.

The WHO also announced that Ebola vaccines could be used on the frontline by November.

EBOLA: Experimental Drug Developed By Nigerian Arrives Nigeria Today

 An experimental drug developed by a Nigerian in diaspora for the treatment of Ebola is expected to arrive the country today, the Minister for Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, has said.

The drug, called “Nanosilver”, has been approved for use by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an experimental treatment ethical in the case of the Ebola epidemic. The Federal Govt yesterday approved the use of experimental drugs in the treatment of the deadly virus.

Ebola Vaccine To Be Ready In 2015

The World Health Organization today announced that clinical trials of a preventative vaccine for the Ebola virus made by British pharma company GlaxoSmithKline may begin next month and made available by 2015.

According to AFP, Jean-Marie Okwo Bele, the WHO's head of vaccines and immunisation, said this; adding that he was optimistic about making the vaccine commercially available.

    "We are targeting September for the start of clinical trials, first in the United States and certainly in African countries, since that's where we have the cases. We think that if we  start in September, we could already have results by the end of the year. And since this is an emergency, we can put emergency procedures in place ... so that we can have a vaccine available by 2015."

WHO Says Ebola Is Spreading Very Fast In West Africa (READ)

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has expressed concern over the spread of Ebola in West Africa.

While speaking at a summit with regional leaders, Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organisation, said that the Ebola outbreak in West Africa was spreading faster than efforts to control it.

She said this  during the emergency crisis summit with the leaders of  Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, held in the Guinean capital, Conakry on Friday, 1 August.
She warned leaders in the West African region that failure to contain the virus could be “catastrophic” in terms of lives lost.
