Protests In Gabon As President Is Said To Be Of Nigerian Descent

 There has been deep rooted speculations over the nationality of the Gabonese president - Ali Bongo, with many claiming that he is of Nigerian descent. Presently there is crisis in the Central African country and part of the grievances is that they cannot have a foreigner (Nigerian) ruling them.

Ali Bongo Ondimba has been President of Gabon since October 2009. Bongo is the son of Omar Bongo, who was President of Gabon from 1967 until his death in 2009.

On Tuesday, Guy Scott was the vice president of Zambia. Now, he’s being hailed by many in the international press as the first white leader of a sub-Saharan African country since the fall of apartheid two decades ago (that's not quite accurate).

Scott, 70, became president Wednesday after the death of his ally, President Michael Sata, in a London hospital. It’s an interim position; fresh elections are expected in 90 days. Scott says he is ineligible to contest because his parents, Scottish colonial settlers, were born outside the country.

EBOLA: Liberian President, Ellen Sirleaf-Johnson Apologizes To Nigeria

The Liberian President expressed concern over the unfortunate incident and apologized to Nigeria on behalf of her countryman who brought the virus to the country.

According to the Minister of State on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nurudeem Mohammed, Sirleaf-Johnson told the Federal Government that Sawyer was on surveillance when he sneaked out of Liberia through Asky Airline.

Mohammed told journalists in Abuja on Thursday that Sirleaf-Johnson had apologised to Nigeria over Sawyer’s visit to Nigeria.

While he wasn't exactly a child when he came into power, Jean-Claude Duvalier of Haiti was just 19-years-old when he was declared President of Haiti.

Baby Doc came into power after his father named him as successor and made certain amendments to the constitution that allowed him to be the President for the rest of his life. Many believed his reign won't last long as Haiti was already in a miserable state, but he succeeded to rule the country for about 15 years.

World Leaders Arrive Abuja For Nigeria's Centenary Celebrations

More than 12 heads of State have arrived Abuja ahead of the centenary celebration, arriving at the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on wednesday for the ceremony billed for Thursday, the News Agency of Nigeria reports

The visiting Heads of State were received at the airport by some members of the Federal Executive Council.

Those that were received at the airport include Presidents Hifikepunye Pohamba of Namibi; Paul Kagame of Rwanda; Yahya Jammeh of Gambia and Prosper Bazombaza of Burundi.
