PHOTOS: How The People Of Burkina Faso Forced The Army Take Over






The youth of Burkina Faso had had enough. They wanted no more of the President Blaise Compaore who had been ruling the country for 27 years with nothing to show for his stewardship, the had hopes that, his tenure would soon come to an end and they patiently waited.

To the rage of the youth Compaore was not ready to leave just yet as he wanted to amend the Constitution so that he would stand for re-election. The members of parliament were planning to take a vote on the proposed amendment when Irate youth marched in on them. The vote was cancelled and the rampage by the youth continued until the military took over the government on Friday and imposed a curfew  to restore calm.

Burkina Army Seizes Power After Uprising

 



After a wide spread protest following the attempt by the legislature to amend the Constitution to allow President Blaise Compaore to run for re-election,  the Army in the West African country, Burkina Faso has seized power. Vanguard reports

The army’s seizure of power in Burkina Faso on Thursday amounted to a “coup”, an opposition leader told AFP, adding that they consider the president’s departure “non-negotiable”.

President Blaise Compaore, who has ruled the country for 27 years, “is again in the process of duping the people,” said opposition leader Benewende Sankara. “We have been saying for a long time that he must hand in his resignation. His departure is non-negotiable.”
