Old Foes! Mourinho And Wenger Get Physical As Chelsea Downs Arsenal (PHOTO)
On a sunny afternoon in West London, where Chelsea stretched their lead at the summit of the English Premier League by 5 points, it was more than obvious that there is no love lost between Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger.
Edin Hazard netted Chelsea’s opening goal from the penalty spot in the 27th minute, while Cesc Fabregas – who was comprehensively jeered by Arsenal fans, passed from the halfway line to Diego Costa at the 77th minute, to score his ninth goal of the season.
As interesting and eventful as the match was, the confrontation between the two gaffers was the major post-match talking point.
Mourinho and Wenger were involved in a touchline shoving duel, after the former leapt in protest from the dug out, following Alexis Sanchez’s tumble from a Gary Cahill challenge. To Mourinho, Sanchez went down way too easily.
But Wenger wasn’t having none of it, as the Arsenal manager challenged Mourinho, by pushing him in the
chest, but before the Portuguese could muster an appropriate retaliation, they were separated by referee, Martin Atkinson.
Atkinson’s separation of the two men, however, did little to end the series of verbal attacks they threw at each other on the sidelines, albeit from a respectable distance.
Their rivalry stretches back to Mourinho’s first spell as Chelsea’s gaffer, and from the look of things, it shows no sign of abating anytime soon.
