WORLD CUP: DEFENDING CHAMPIONS, SPAIN, CRASH OUT AFTER 2-0 LOSS TO CHILE

Defending World Cup champion Spain crashed out of the 2014 World Cup in stunning fashion with losses in its first two games in the Group Stage. The  Spanish side that bookended its triumph at the 2010 World Cup with titles at the UEFA European Championship in 2008 and 2012 has been eliminated from contention. Chile sealed Spain's fate with a 2-0 win at Estadio Maracana in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.

Spain becomes the latest defending World Cup champion to fail to get past the Group Stages. In 2010, defending champion Italy left South Africa after a loss and two draws in the group stage. In 2002, defending champion, France suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to Senegal and would head home after another loss and draw.
