Your Tarrifs Are Exploitative - Oshiomhole To New Electricity Company, BEDC
Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has condemned the arbitrary energy tariff and fixed charge by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
Oshiomhole has said that the charges BEDC where implementing is very “exploitative” and “irresponsible to its consumers.
The governor reminded that the reason for privatisation is to improve entrepreneurial efficiency and not trump up prices.
Oshiomhole said: “You (BEDC) will recall that the first day I formally receive you in my office, I made some factual statement that the essence of privatisation was the increase in entrepreneurial efficiency.
“I think l also mentioned that now that the Federal Government had hands off NEPA or PHCN, it was incumbent that you improve on your service delivery to consumers, failure of which would spark revolt.
“This is exactly what is happening today,’.
Oshionhole didnt stop there but also said the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) should not charge for services not provided.
Oshimhole told the managers of BEDC to invite NERC officials to his office within two weeks for further meetings.
