Woman Wins Right To Marry Her Dead Fiance
20 Months of waiting and four letters to the President and a woman identified as Pascale can now be legally married to her dead fiance.
The heartbroken French woman will be wed to her dead fiance because of a little-known French law used in such special circumstances.
The woman, who only identified herself as Pascale, was with her fiance for six-and-a-half years before he died of a heart attack. The tragedy occurred just one month before the pair was to be married, The Local reports.
It took her four letters to the president and 20 months of waiting, but a few weeks from now, Pascale will stand before the mayor of her village in St. Omer and marry her fiance Michael.
In a similar case 22-year-old Karen jumeaux married Anthony Maillot almost two years after he was killed in a road accident. She obtained permission from President Nicolas Sarkozay for the posthumous wedding, granted because she could prove they were already planning a wedding.
