A commissioner with Zamfara state local government service commission, Alhaji Yusuf Garba, was shot dead by three unidentified gunmen near his residence at Ungwar Zabarma of Tudun Wada area of the state capital, Gusau, on March 14, 2014, Friday. The suspects escaped immediately after the murder without robbing money from the victim.
It has been gathered that the assassins came to the residence of the deceased at about 9 pm, riding
a motorcycle, and asked somebody they met at the main entrance to
notify the host that some guests have arrived to see him outside.
When
he unsuspecting victim came out of the house, one of the gunmen told
him that they were armed robbers and that he should bring out money to
save his life, while the other two went inside the residence and
pressured his wife to give out gold items.
When
they could not get anything from the victims, one of the gunmen shot
the commissioner in the chest, while another shot him in the lower
abdomen.
The neighbours were allegedly so scared by the sound of the gunshots that no one dared to help.
The killers escaped to an unknown direction.
The
Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Yari Abubakar, paid a condolence
visit to the family of the deceased. He stated that “no one’s safety is
guaranteed” due to Nigeria’s prevailing insecurity. The governor also
expressed concern that the current situation it could be a serious
threat to the survival of the Nigerian society.
